NON MERCI! President Trump must say NO to Paris Accord

By Marielena Montesino de Stuart

No thanks!

President Trump must say Non merci! to the Paris Accord climate scam.  EU bureaucrats see the Paris Accord as a means to encroach on our sovereignty, as well as on our economic and negotiating strength as the leader of the world.

The EU also sees the Paris Accord as a means to reach the ultimate goal of global wealth redistribution– which is Communism! This is what global warming is all about. It’s not about global  “warming”– it’s about global “governance” through global taxation.

You see, under the Paris Accord, the United States would carry most of the tax burden as the world’s largest economy, even though America’s natural gas production has helped reduce CO2 emissions– much more than the European Union!

By the way, CO2 emissions are not toxic anyway!

US News and World Report:

A noted geologist who coauthored the New York Times bestseller Sugar Busters has turned his attention to convincing Congress that carbon dioxide emissions are good for the Earth and don’t cause global warming. Leighton Steward is on Capitol Hill this week armed with studies and his book Fire, Ice and Paradise in a bid to show senators working on the energy bill that the carbon dioxide cap-and-trade scheme could actually hurt the environment by reducing CO2 levels.”

There is powerful and compelling opposition to the global warming hoax

More than just a few scientists oppose this climate change hoax. Here’s the introduction to the Global Warming Petition Project, signed by 31,487 scientists who oppose this scam:

“Publicists at the United Nations, Mr. Al Gore, and their supporters frequently claim that only a few “skeptics” remain – skeptics who are still unconvinced about the existence of a catastrophic human-caused global warming emergency.

It is evident that 31,487 Americans with university degrees in science – including 9,029 PhDs, are not “a few.” Moreover, from the clear and strong petition statement that they have signed, it is evident that these 31,487 American scientists are not “skeptics.”

These scientists are instead convinced that the human-caused global warming hypothesis is without scientific validity and that government action on the basis of this hypothesis would unnecessarily and counterproductively damage both human prosperity and the natural environment of the Earth.”

The poor will pay dearly

If the United States stays in the Paris Accord, energy taxes and fees would increase exponentially over time– with the EU and the UN calling the shots. This would be disastrous for the elderly and the poor in America, who would have to choose between having enough to eat– and keeping themselves warm in the winter– or running the essential air-conditioner year-round in states like Arizona, Nevada, Florida and others.

All orchestrated by EU bureaucrats. No thanks!

Enough is enough

Americans have already been oppressed enough under the taxation imposed by the environmental socialist government policies of both Republican and Democrat administrations. We don’t need more socialist subjugation.

Under the Paris Accord, life on the grid will be affordable mostly by the rich and powerful. That is exactly how Communism works. That’s how it works in Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea and every country that has been subjugated by Communism.

Mr. President– please say, Non merci! to the Paris Accord, just as you promised during your campaign for the presidency.

Someone has to say the truth…

Hello readers from Austria!

Thanks for visiting!  Drop me a line through my contact form to share your views on the Islamic terrorism that is so deeply affecting Europe, as well as the geopolitical and economic situation faced by Austria under the socialist governance of the EU.

Given the disastrous scenario of Islamic terrorism in Europe, do you support Norbert Hofer’s strict immigration policies and opposition to the Islamization of Austria? Do you support the building of the fence along the entire southern border with Hungary?

See that thou hast in thy company men, whether religious or lay, who are right worthy and loyal and not full of covetousness, and confer with them oft; and fly and eschew the company of the wicked. Hearken willingly to the Word of God and keep it in thine heart, and seek diligently after prayers and indulgences. Love all that is good and profitable and hate all that is evil, wheresoever it may be.– Louis IX, Saint and King of France.

I chose to begin today’s commentary with the above quote from Louis IX as a reminder of the traditions, wisdom and greatness of Europe, in thought, faith and culture.

This wisdom was evident yesterday when the citizens of Great Britain presented the world with a courageous example by choosing to free themselves from the European Union’s socialist chokehold. This is a devastating blow to the globalists socialists all over the world– and an inspiration for the Millennial generation, which is being mentally poisoned, each and every day, with socialist ideas based on materialistic atheism.

During a recent visit to Washington DC, I walked along a field of British and American flags in Constitution Gardens, and reflected on the great history of these two nations– and how their paths have converged, in perils and in victories. Yesterday, the Britons delivered not just a victory for themselves– but for us, because we too are being subjugated by the globalists– who are nothing but socialist elite.

The EU’s ongoing ruination of Europe

We have witnessed EU’s economic policies, which have decimated the economy of Europe’s smaller nations, such as Greece and Spain, thus destroying the lives of millions. The EU’s political policies have also proven to be a dismal failure. Today, Europe is a place of fear– with violent protests against EU policies, and Islamic terrorists on the march, who kill and maim innocent Europeans and visitors from all over the world– in cities like Paris, Brussels, London, Cologne, Stockholm, Madrid, and others.

European cities used to be places where one could walk with a sense of  wonderment, while experiencing the history of so many great cultures. Today, many of these cities, while continuing to attract millions, are also places of terrible violence, where citizens and visitors must watch their every move– afraid of another Islamic terrorist attack. It will take a very, very long time for Europe to recover from this horrific environment.

The EU socialist policies responsible for the Islamization of the European continent through mass immigration have brought great social unrest– in spite of the ongoing protests and pleas from citizens across Europe, who can no longer tolerate the violence and instability of cities and towns assigned to accommodate the influx of migrants.

As you have seen, my commentary today began with a quote from Saint Louis, King of France. In this spirit of faith, it is imperative that I clarify that the charity extended to migrants and refugees fleeing war torn regions is extremely important. In fact, as a former political refugee from Communist Cuba, I know full well the plight of those who flee oppression and chaos. But the violence that exists in Europe, perpetrated mostly by home-grown Islamic extremists, proves that this is a very different situation, which cannot be compared to the charity extended to refugees and migrants during other periods in history– when they were assimilated and they embraced the culture and the laws of the nations that protected them.

The EU socialists in Brussels have ignored one important and distinct fact: Europe is being subjected to the same violent scenario it faced at the Gates of Vienna in 1683, when she defended herself against the Islamists of the Ottoman Empire. Yes, history repeats itself– mostly because man allows it.

Get out of the EU

European nations need to follow the example of the United Kingdom, by leaving the EU and it’s socialist grip on their economies and sovereignty. This must be followed by the establishment of laws that will stabilize their societies, morally and economically.

In addition, measures must be taken to establish safe zones in the Middle East, for the care of refugees. The obscene amount of money and incredible man-power being used in Europe to fight Islamic terrorism far exceeds what would be needed to maintain refugee safe zones. These safe zones would provide a dignified environment– unlike some of the camps in Europe, where refugees are subjected to subhuman conditions– while the United Nations claims that it is running out of money, and the EU bureaucrats in Brussels wring their hands and issue vapid proclamations and excuses.

Do not listen to the self-serving talking heads in the media– who are acting as if the sky is falling because the UK has left the EU. Great Britain was a powerful nation before the socialists came up with the EU.

This is a great moment in modern history. It is also a time for us to follow the wisdom of men like King Louis IX of France– not just with words, but with actions. The people of Great Britain have led the way. The rest of Europe must follow. Get out of the EU.

Someone has to say the truth…

The Political Correctness of Vincent Mertens de Wilmars– Ambassador of Belgium to France

By Marielena Montesino de Stuart

The Belgian Ambassador to France, Vincent Mertens de Wilmars, just spoke to France 24. France 24 has an English-language channel; however, this particular interview was conducted through their French channel.  Behind the ambassador one could see the flag of the EU and the Belgian flag. The latter was wrapped in a black ribbon to signify a country in mourning, after the savage terrorist attacks in Brussels this week.

I was taken aback by Ambassador de Wilmars political correctness, in spite of the overwhelming indignation by Belgians and Europeans in general, regarding the Islamic extremism that has pushed cities like Brussels into a state of panic.

The last straw came when de Wilmars offered the solution to stop the radicalization at Moslem schools / centers:  to treat them the same as one would treat Catholic schools and others– in order to prevent extremism!

Excuse me? Catholic schools are not centers of extremism. When have you seen a young Catholic man or woman be radicalized into blowing people up, based on Catholic teachings? Never!

One can only imagine that de Wilmar’s statement is due to the fact that apparently it is not uncommon for Moslem students to attend Catholic schools in Belgium.

Let’s examine this situation.

The following are excerpts from a Reuters News article titled, “Suicide bomber Laachraoui was model student at Brussels Catholic school”  (Thursday, 24 March, 2016 10:50am EDT):

“Brussels suicide bomber Najim Laachraoui, a veteran Islamist fighter in Syria also suspected of making explosive belts for November’s Paris attacks, was a model student in a Brussels Catholic high school, the school’s director told Reuters.”

“‘Najim Laachraoui was a very good student,” said Veronica Pellegrini, the director of the Institut de la Sainte Famille d’Helmet, a Catholic school in the ethnically mixed east Brussels borough of Schaerbeek.”

“‘He never failed a class,” Pellegrini said of Laachraoui, who studied at the school for six years, until graduating in 2009. “We haven’t heard from him since,” she told Reuters in a phone interview.”

“There is speculation Laachraoui had just returned from Syria, possibly by sea with refugees.”

“Catholic religion classes are part of the school’s curricula for all students independent of their religion, and Laachraoui would have attended those classes as any other student, Pellegrini said.”

“While the school offers technical studies in fields such as chemistry, and Belgian media say Laachraoui had studied electromechanics, Pellegrini said he did not take such courses in her school, where he only pursued general studies.”

“It is not uncommon for Muslim pupils in Belgium to go to Catholic schools, which can be seen as more conservative or more exclusive than state schools.”

“The Paris attacks’ suspected mastermind, Abdelhamid Abaaoud, a Belgian killed during a raid in Paris suburb St Denis on Nov. 18, had at 12 won a scholarship to an elite Catholic school.”

It’s time for Catholic schools to stop being politically correct and begin to enforce authentic Catholic curriculum. Catholic schools must not enroll students whose families have no interest in becoming Christians. In my opinion, we need to ask if Catholic schools are simply interested in making a profit from Islamic students. How else can one explain such an Islamic radical to emerge from a “Catholic” school?

Is Pellegrini (the school director) contradicting herself when she says that Laachraoui only pursued “general studies?” Is her school requiring that each and every student pass religion courses on Christianity? What’s the point of a “Catholic” school if it does not require all students to enroll in courses that teach Christianity? But considering the chaotic state of the Catholic Church hierarchy in Rome– why should anyone be surprised about the ambiguity of modernist Catholic education!

And so… this nauseating and bizarre political correctness continues as a disease that Socialists are spreading across Europe– like a deadly virus. The symptoms are evident in the streets of Paris, Brussels, Cologne, Stockholm and others. Innocent Europeans, Americans, as well as individuals from many different countries, are being blown apart or left maimed by savage Islamic extremists– while educators, diplomats and politicians continue their dangerous charade of political correctness. Enough is enough. Americans, take note!

FRANCE: The war against lavender and ISIS

Featured image: Cistercian Abbey of Notre-Dame de Sénanque, in Provence– surrounded by lavender fields.

By Marielena Montesino de Stuart

The war against lavender

I love the French. I do. I love to speak their language– and enjoy their culture, music, food and fashion.

I love King Louis IX and St. Joan of Arc.  I love the traditional Catholic culture of France.

What I don’t like (along with millions of French citizens) is the current French government’s socialist proclivities– which include its tolerance of the EU’s REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals).  REACH appears to be overReaching by declaring a war on lavender in France.  You could call this another environmentalist “accomplishment.”

Yes. Lavender is under attack by the EU’s environmentalists and sustainable development [*]  “experts.” Yet lavender, this ancient flowering plant, has been used since ancient times, not just as a perfume– but for its medicinal and antiseptic properties.

Lavender oil is an essential item in my boudoir and throughout my home. Indeed, lavender has always been part of my life. I associate lavender with relaxed walks in the Orto Botanico di Padova (The Botanical Gardens of Padua)– the oldest university botanical garden in the world. I would end my walks with a visit to the nearby Basilica of St. Anthony, with its blue frescoed vault that seemed to bathe the basilica in a lavender glow. Lavender is a recurring theme in my life.

But REACH doesn’t seem to care about the beauty and healing properties of lavender. It has declared that lavender oil should be classified as a chemical toxin, right up there with hydrochloric acid and other toxic chemicals. As such, REACH is requiring that lavender products carry a bold black and red warning label– the type that you see on the back of chemical cleaners, such as “fatal if inhaled or ingested.”

The French Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy does not seem to mind this aggressive approach by the bureaucrats at the European Commission’s REACH– an approach which could put at risk thousands of jobs. See documentation (PDF) in French, from le Sénat (French Senate).

I wonder how long the stunning Provençal lavender fields will be around.

The war against ISIS

On a not-so-fragrant front, François Hollande, France’s very socialist and amorous president, has decided to launch an attack– not against lavender– but against ISIS, through an air campaign conducted with French Rafale fighter jets.  Four GBU-12 laser-guided bombs were dropped today near the town of Zumar, reportedly killing dozens of ISIS fighters.

President Hollande issued the following statement this morning:

“This morning, at 9.40am, our Rafale aircraft carried out a first attack against a logistics centre of the terrorist organisation Daesh [Isis] in the north-east of Iraq. The target was hit and entirely destroyed. Other operations will be carried out in the days to come.”

In 2013, The French were ready to join military action against Bashar al-Assad’s forces in Syria, until President Obama finally ended his backing-into-war shuffle. French authorities reportedly consider that Obama’s ambivalence is the reason the throat cutters have grown exponentially in Syria and Iraq.

While President Hollande continues to be France’s most unpopular president, particularly in the economic arena, he is scoring some marks by sending his armed forces into battle against al Qaeda in northern Mali– and the Central African Republic.

There is no question that, after a very depressing hearing this week in Washington DC regarding the war against ISIS, the French action over the skies of Iraq brings some hope to those suffering under the  barbaric ISIS nightmare.

Unfortunately, President Hollande has not had a good year.  The pressures of juggling his socialist government while fighting Islamic extremists in far away lands, is taking a toll on him.

In less than five months Hollande has had to dissolve his government twice– in order to appease both his Socialist colleagues and the parliamentary majority.  The French have grown more than impatient with the state of the French economy and the control coming from Brussels and Berlin– with the latter tightening the rope of austerity across the European continent.

It’s Friday evening. May I suggest that President Hollande place a bottle of lavender oil in each room of the Élysée Palace to help him relax. The lavender farmers in Provence would be grateful.

Someone has to say the truth… (please share it).

The attack on Flight 17: Will this act of war be forgotten?

By Marielena Montesino de Stuart

Flight 17: the aftermath

The gruesome photos of dismembered bodies and pieces of fuselage scattered over a 10-mile radius near the Ukrainian-Russian border— is a scene from hell.  It is a rather painful coincidence that this horrific attack took place on the 96th anniversary of another gruesome event: the execution of the Russian Royal family, by the Bolsheviks.

The attack on Flight 17 is an act of war– which, according to reports, appears to have been perpetrated by individuals who had access to, and operational knowledge of a BUK, which is a Russian-made, medium-range surface-to-air missile system.

While the Ukrainians blame the Russians– and the Russians blame the Ukrainians, intelligence reports from the United Kingdom and Washington are pointing the finger at Vladimir Putin and his Russian-backed separatist forces in eastern Ukraine.

Barack Obama’s initial disconnected remarks about the plane’s crash (“it appears to be a tragedy“) were quite disturbing– even to the point of eliciting criticism from the mainstream media.

A similar disconnected tone was also noted in a joint statement by the President of the European Commission and the President of the European Council in Brussels.

Approximately twenty-four hours later, Obama did some image damage control by presenting a much more somber approach, demanding accountability and calling for an in-depth investigation of the attack. The Europeans followed suit.

It should come as no surprise that during this international socialist era, both the United States government and the European Union are looking towards the United Nations for a plan to address the attack on flight 17.

The United Nations?

Yes, the same United Nations which has elected Cuba and Russia to the Human Rights Council– but somehow forgot to include Ukraine.

As expected, Fidel Castro came out in defense of Russia.

Yes, the same United Nations which has Russia and China as permanent members of the United Nations “Security” Council.

Which begs the question: how can anyone expect that the United Nations is going to legitimately assume the role of decision-maker and justice-seeker in the act of war involving Flight 17– when it protects and elevates terrorist communist governments to positions of leadership?

Ah… but you see, the United Nations is the “new leader” of the world– and you have been conditioned to accept this as a “global citizen.”

Interestingly, a few hours before the attack on Flight 17, I had published a brief commentary on a decision made by a Dutch court, declaring the Netherlands liable for the death of 300 Bosniaks in 1995, who were under the protection of Dutch UN peacekeepers.  This court decision brings into question the reliability of the UN “peacekeeping” forces– when it comes to the protection of innocent civilians in war-torn regions.

How does Flight 17 compare with other planes brought down by a missile attack, gunfire or terrorist-related sabotage?

What about the United States?

Gone are the days of the United States lighting the way in times of war.  Washington has been weakened and disfigured by decades of corruption and lack of moral leadership.

While the remains of 298 innocent victims, including 80 children and some of the world’s top scientists in the field of AIDS research, lie dismembered in the remote fields of eastern Ukraine, innocent people all over the world will continue to be put in harms way, as they wait for justice from the bureaucrats in the United Nations.

This is the tragic reality of our times.

May this act of war not be forgotten– and may the passengers and crew members of Flight 17 rest in the peace of Our Lord.

Someone has to say the truth…

Thoughts on the European Union Elections

By Marielena Montesino de Stuart

There is no question that some voters in the European Union have made it very clear that they do not want to put up with socialism.  This was strongly felt in Great Britain and France where the more fiscally conservative parties were victorious, thus sending a clear message as to who they want as representatives in the European Parliament; however, in Italy and Germany the “mainstream” parties managed to prevail.

The above scenario means that an army of socialists are still the majority in the European Parliament.

I wish I could be more optimistic– but don’t expect earth shattering improvements on the moral front– considering that the socialists are still holding most of the power.

I expect that what we will see is a more critical assessment of international trade– accompanied by strong support of the national manufacturing base, in France and the UK.

Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, called Brussels “too big, too bossy and too interfering.”  It is no wonder that Cameron is leading the attack against the progressive Christian-Democrat, Jean-Claude Juncker, in order to prevent Juncker from becoming Europe’s Spitzenkandidat (top candidate) to the presidency of the European Commission.  It is interesting to note that the European mainstream media considers Juncker a “conservative.”  I beg to differ.

Juncker is an old Brussels insider. Juncker’s former job as Prime Minister of Luxembourg ended in a firestorm, following a spy scandal à la NSA.  This opened the door for the first Luxembourgian openly homosexual Prime Minister, Xavier Bettel, who enjoyed the validation of Luxembourg’s Catholic Grand Duke Henri.

If there was any question before, now it is very clear that Luxembourg will never be the same.  But this is just a side note, to give you a taste of the flavors and colors of the European Union.

So we will sit and wait, as the more fiscally conservative members of the EU parliament begin their work.

At the end of the day, public policies in Europe will continue to be centered on economics.  The sacred defense of the traditional family and the battle against abortion may be mentioned– but they will probably soon become back-seat issues.

Yet, the defense of human life and the traditional family constitute the foundation of a healthy economy– since a broken society is always susceptible to the risk of being “rescued” by the socialists.

And the beat goes on.

There is Anxiety in Ankara

Featured Post

By Marielena Montesino de Stuart

The Turks are working their worry beads… as chaos surrounds them.

There is a reason Turkey is very nervous these days, particularly when it comes to Crimea.

When Turks think of Crimea they think of the Crimean Khanate, a Turkish-Mongol basal state under the Ottoman Empire, until 1783– when Catherine the Great annexed the region.

As such, it was in Crimea that the Turkish people saw their powerful Ottoman Empire subjected to a major defeat, at the hands of the Russians.

Nothing was ever the same for the Turks– and now history is repeating itself with Russia’s annexation of Crimea under Vladimir Putin.

Ankara's Kocatepe Mosque
Ankara’s Kocatepe Mosque

By the late nineteenth century, the Ottoman Empire had been overwhelmed by Russia– in the Black Sea, the Caucasus and the Balkans. The only hope the Turks had left was to kindle Moslem Tatar unrest in Crimea.

In addition to the Russian Empire, Ukraine and its Crimean peninsula have been under the domination of various powers, including the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Poland — as well as under the boot of the former Soviet Union. This is why this region is considered Europe’s main theater of war.

Crimea is a symbol of victory for Russia. But Turks never forgot the power and influence they once held over the area; consequently, the Ottoman Empire entered World War I by attacking Crimea’s harbor in Sevastopol and destroying Russia’s ability to command the Black Sea during WWI.

The Marxist takeover of Russia thwarted Turkey’s plans– eventually leading to a cooperation between Moscow and Ankara, known as the Treaty of Moscow (1921)– a classic case of “if you can’t beat them, join them.” By the time World War II broke out, Turkey had grown used to a “dialogue” of sorts with Moscow– and assumed a position of neutrality.

Ankara, however, felt Moscow’s threat to Turkish sovereignty more and more with Joseph Stalin in the picture. Stalin’s insistence that Soviet ships pass through the Bosporus strait was a scary situation for the Turks. This pressure from the Soviets escalated– leaving Turkey with no option but to “take sides” by joining NATO in 1952.

The above historical trajectory has magnified Turkey’s sometimes advantageous, sometimes  vulnerable geographical position at the edge of Europe– which now has Ankara welcoming European sustainable development (socialist) economic deals, while asserting its Moslem side.

This duality was evident during the visit to Turkey by the Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg, and Luxembourg’s Cuban-born Grand Duchess, María Teresa, in November 2013.

With the annexation of Crimea, Turkey faces Russian expansion in the region– reminiscent of Catherine the Great. But Vladimir Putin’s “victory” of annexing Crimea is not due to being a “great” leader; instead, it is due to the military and economic weakness of his neighbors– and his desire to recover the former Soviet Union’s territories.

Putin is an old KGB thug– but he is no fool. He knows that he also needs to win over the Moslem population in Ukraine, including the Tatars, in order to strengthen the Russian sphere of influence in the region’s Moslem communities.

Putin and the Tatars in Crimea

A Crimean Tatar teaching the Koran
A Crimean Tatar teaching the Koran

Putin has assumed that the Crimean Tatars’ Moslem blood will run thicker on the Russian side, than in the waters of their Sunni Turkic origin.

But he is wrong.

Crimean Tatars, who in current times are comprised of Sufis, Taqfirs, Salafis, Jihadis, etc., are less than enthusiastic about living under Russian rule, considering that their history vividly recounts the loss of the Crimean Khanate to Russia. In fact, many Crimean Tatars boycotted the Crimean Referendum– and the leader of the Crimean Tatars’ assembly, Refat Chubarov, has called for a national and autonomous region for Tatars in Crimea.

Furthermore, the memory of being deported by the Soviets in cattle wagons– and dying by the thousands in the process– is still fresh in their minds.

Tatars have been a loud voice against the Russian annexation of Crimea, except for some small groups that feel abandoned by the Ukrainian government in Kiev.

The annexation of Crimea– with its long history of religious ethnic minorities and struggles– is like purchasing an old car: it will require a lot of maintenance. But for Putin, this effort is well worth it– taking into consideration the strategic advantage Russia enjoys by controlling the Crimean peninsula, which includes a prominent presence in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Basin.

This is why Putin was joined by the two highest-ranking Moslem leaders in Russia, during the Crimean annexation ceremony in the Kremlin: Mufti Sheikh-ul-Islam Talgat Tadzhuddin, Chairman of the Central Clerical Administration of Moslems of Russia Supreme, and Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin, the Chairman of the Council of Muftis of Russia. The evidence of their presence during the annexation ceremony was critically important to Putin, as he gains new territory and appeases Tatar Moslem communities– while presenting a farcical Christian front to the rest of the world.

What about the Kremlin conformist, the Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill?

Kirill was absent during the Crimea annexation ceremony.

Well, well, well…

Could it be that Kirill is concerned that the Russian chaos in Ukraine could ruin Russia’s Orthodox plans to be seen as the leader of world Orthodoxy?– an honorary primacy traditionally held by the Patriarch of Constantinople.

If this is the case, numbers will play a big role in Ukraine, where Orthodoxy is deeply divided. There is also unrest amongst Orthodox church members who until now were loyal to Moscow– but are now turning towards Kiev. In addition, there are reports of violence against Catholic and Ukrainian clergy in Crimea.

So far, it looks like Kirill’s friend, Vladimir Putin, is ruining the farcical Christian program at the Kremlin, which Kirill has been supporting.

We will have to wait and see how Patriarch Kirill will proceed, in anticipation of the pan-Orthodox council that will convene in 2016– considered to be their largest and most significant event since 787 AD.

This pan-religious council has the goal of unifying Orthodox Christians in their approach to modern times.

Good luck.

Watch the Kremlin take over this council and control the show.

You see, the Kremlin has controlled the Russian Orthodox Church– from the Soviet period to the present time.

This is another example of why I stress to my readers that Russia, under Vladimir Putin’s control, must not be trusted from a Christian standpoint– no matter how tempting it is– during these dark times when Christians are being persecuted and are desperately looking for someone in a position of leadership to say the right words.

As far as Catholics are concerned, Russia will continue on this murky path until it is duly consecrated, pursuant to the request of the Virgin Mary at Fatima.

Meanwhile, there is not much the Turks can do about Russia’s annexation of Crimea– since the Turkish economy is highly dependent on importing Russian energy products. More than half of Turkey’s natural gas needs are met by Russia– and Russia is Turkey’s number-one trading partner.

There have been reports that the Prime Minister of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has issued threats to close the Bosporus to Russian ships– if the Crimean Tatars are threatened.  We will be shocked if he follows through with his threat, given Turkey’s economic dependency on Russia.

Ankara stands to be punished if it crosses Moscow– just as when the Russians set up the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK)– which carried out terror attacks against Turkey for several decades. The PKK became active in Lebanon’s  Bekaa Valley under Syrian occupation, during the 1980’s. The PKK continued to receive the tacit support of the Kremlin, even after the Soviet Union “dissolved.”

Turkey entered into peace talks with the PKK– but remains alert to the fact that hardline PKK members are not to be trusted.

Turkey’s dislike of Assad’s regime in Syria does not sit well with Moscow– and Turkey’s support of Syria’s opposition forces has not gone unnoticed in the Kremlin. If the Turks intervene in Syria, the PKK will most likely take up arms against Turkey once again.

It is patently clear that Turkey will not mess with Russia.

Moslems under Russian expansion

This difficult relationship between Moslems and Russians evidently goes back hundreds of years– and Moslems in the region have learned to survive with this tension. This is why Moslem communities have a history of benefitting from their participation in trade networks created through Russian expansion.

Crimean Tatars do not identify fully with the Islamic approach of the Russian mullahs who frequent the Kremlin; nevertheless, the Tatars in Crimea, like their Moslem counterparts in Russia, are accustomed to an imperfect, albeit pragmatic and economically viable modus operandi with their Russian rulers.

The inculcation of an Islamic system, which embraces socialism, has also anchored Moslem communities in the region for a very long time. Moslem leaders in Russia take advantage of this environment by essentially claiming that Russian expansionism acts as a “protection” against the more radical Saudi-style Islamic presence. This will only work with those who do not identify with global jihad– and there is support for global jihad in Crimea.

With all this in mind, Vladimir Putin is going out of his way to appease the Tatars in Crimea– even offering to make Crimean Tatar an official language, alongside Ukrainian and Russian. Crimean Tatar is a member of the Kypchak branch of Turkic languages.

Given the above scenario, Putin has no choice but to practice delicate diplomacy with Moslems– as part of his determination to maintain a close relationship with Moslem states that identify with Putin’s position against Washington– such as Syria, Iran and others.

Washington, on the other hand, lacks the leadership to do anything about Putin’s aggressive territorial expansion project. And at the end of the day, Putin and Obama have something in common: they are both expanding their socialist agenda. One under the disguise of Christianity– and the other in the name of “social justice.”

Tragically, while Putin is recreating the former Soviet Union, the European Union– which is also highly dependent on Russian energy products– has little to offer, other than socialism and austerity programs.

No wonder there is anxiety in Ankara– as well as in the entire Balkans-Caucasus region.

On a day such as this…

By Marielena Montesino de Stuart

It is fascinating to watch the news from Ukraine, along with the speculation on what will happen next, as the Crimea (officially the Autonomous Republic of Crimea) moves closer and closer to becoming a part of Russia.

Let’s take a look at how some territories have evolved or changed hands over time… for better or worse:

On a day such as this… in 1681, King Charles II handed over a large piece of his American land holdings to William Penn to satisfy a debt the king owed to Penn’s father. This land included present-day Pennsylvania and Delaware.  The democratic principles that Penn established in the Pennsylvania frame of government, served as an inspiration for the United States Constitution.

On a day such as this… in 1804, a ceremony was conducted to transfer ownership of the Louisiana Territory from France to the United States.

On a day such as this… in 1952, Fulgencio Batista carried out a coup d’état in Cuba, anticipating that the government would fall in the hands of the socialists.  Following his takeover, Batista led Cuba’s economy to the highest level the republic had ever known, ahead of all other Spanish-speaking nations in the Western Hemisphere. Unfortunately, Batista’s unconstitutional takeover made the long-established Cuban Marxist elements even more determined to control the island, as they did in 1959, when Fidel Castro began his bloody Communist dictatorship— placing the island’s territory at the service of the former Soviet Union.

Batista’s rule lasted less than seven years.

Castro’s Communist rule has lasted more than 55 years—and has been instrumental in the spread of Marxism and totalitarianism in the Western Hemisphere, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

On a day such as this… in 1959, Tibetans were protesting outside of the summer palace of the Dalai Lama, in defiance of the occupation by Communist Chinese forces, which began in 1950.

Sixty four years later, Tibet is still under Chinese Communist rule.

On a day such as this… the Autonomous Republic of Crimea is not protesting Russian occupation forces—because the majority of Crimeans are of Russian descent and identify with Russia. The March 16 referendum in Crimea (which is considered unconstitutional by the Ukranian government) will essentially be a choice of YES NOW or YES LATER.  In other words, join Russia immediately– or declare independence and then join Russia.

And there’s nothing that the world can do.

As such, this is beginning to look more and more like an awkward situation for uninformed newscasters and self-declared political sages—who have little understanding of the demographics and the history of the region.

Sadly, powerful entities such as the European Union and Russia are pushing for vast socialist territorial governance—and are suppressing the sovereignty of smaller states.

It’s called socialism. That is why Russia is a close friend of Fidel Castro’s Communist dictatorship. The same goes for the European Union.

The rhetoric of the Russian government may differ from that of the European Union, but their goals are the same: domination of entire regions. It’s all a question of who is bigger and more powerful to hold the reins of these smaller countries. And they are not hiding their agenda. Case in point: Germany’s Foreign Minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, considers that political parties are a threat to peace!

This regional domination is not done with bullets– but with economic control.

Ask the Greeks, who have lost their sovereignty and have been impoverished morally and economically, by selling their beautiful country to the socialists. The vast majority of Greek government debt is now owned by other European governments and the ECB (European Central Bank).

The old grand halls of governments across the world have turned their backs on great statesmanship.

So, on a day such as this…  we watch the United States spending millions of dollars mobilizing military assets across the Bosporus and into the Black Sea. Mind you, I’m neither a pacifist nor an isolationist. But reality shows that the Crimeans will decide their fate by choosing:

 □ Yes now

 □ Yes later
