LESSON NO.1: RESPECT PRESIDENT TRUMP– Israel’s Ambassador to the U.S. needs a lesson in diplomacy

By Marielena Montesino de Stuart

The first lesson an ambassador needs to learn is to respect the President of his host country, no matter the venue or geographic location. But Israel's Ambassador to the U.S., Ron Dermer, must have skipped that lesson.

With cameras rolling and in plain sight of journalists, Israel’s Ambassador to the U.S., Ron Dermer, showed fragile amusement (including a smirk) when President Trump innocently remarked, “we just got back from the Middle East, we just got back from Saudi Arabia.”  This meeting with Israeli officials was open to the press. And the mainstream media, which is mostly comprised of a few clowns short of a circus, is running loose with the story– claiming that Trump implied that Israel is not in the Middle East.

This innocent mistake on the part of President Trump, should have been overlooked by Ron Dermer, considering that Dermer’s duties as a “top” diplomat require that he show respect for the U.S. President– a President who has made sure that Israel remain untouched under his administrations’s deep cuts to foreign aid.

Trump’s plan calls for slashing the State Department’s $50 billion budget by about 28%. But Mark Toner, a State Department spokesman, announced that U.S. annual aid to Israel, which this year was close to $3.1 billion, would not be touched under Trump’s plan. A very generous aid indeed from American taxpayers.

Israel gets more U.S. aid than any other nation– which is something that Mr. Dermer should consider, before smirking and throwing his hand up to his face in front of President Trump.

Ron Dermer’s fragile demeanor

So, did it ever occur to Mr. Dermer that President Trump may have been very tired? These foreign trips involve a monumental and extremely complicated schedule of security checkpoints and requirements, just for the President to move from point A to point B. I doubt that Mr. Dermer could keep up with such a schedule, considering his fragile demeanor.

President Trump’s exhausting good-will, peace-dealing tour through the Middle East is not just rigorous, but it is non-stop.  For example, the President had to meet with Mahmoud Abbas at 3:00am, U.S. Eastern time!

Moreover, in order to broker the ever-elusive peace deal in the Middle East, President Trump is forced to taste the bitter fruits of more than one thousand years of religious, tribal and cultural discord between Moslems and Jews– and 2,017 years of religious conflict, since Christ walked on the streets of the Holy Land preaching peace and love, for which he was nailed to the Cross!

Mr. Dermer needs a reprimand and retraining in diplomacy– if he wants to keep his job. All he had to do is keep a straight face when the President made the innocent erroneous remark.

As a key host during President Trump’s visit to Israel, it was Mr. Dermer’s obligation to practice diplomacy and show some class.

Someone has to say the truth…
